I have a 4 ft x 4 ft particle board sewing table that was custom made for me. It is in good shape other than the 4x4 bottom. The wheels got caught in carpeting and the edges on one side has broken off in several pieces. That same piece has a hairline crack down the middle. I am looking for someone to duplicate this bottom piece or repair it. I have read that it could fixed by using some type of "plaster filling"; however, I think replacing it would be the best fix. It has a large + about 1" wide cut so that the middle boards nestle in the bottom.
Does this sound possible to repair?
Thanks
Usually aerospace and marine grade epoxies can be put in areas like this and reshaped. The key is usually making the first appliation of the epoxy thinner with no fillers so it penetrates out from the area and grips. While still wet other applications of epoxies with ceramic microspheres will add strength and make the area more sandable. We just did this on an old wooden screen door that had dry rot near the bottom. We really did not want to change the character of the door by adding new wood. We did this process and then added new kick plates on each side as both decorative trim and for further strengthening...
